Ohio State University
The Ohio State University selected glaserworks to design this renovation project which includes the removal of existing residence and group bathrooms on floors 1-4 to accommodate new individual, private bathrooms. In addition, the existing housekeeping rooms on floors 2-4 will be renovated into new double-occupant residence rooms.
New Canfield Hall was constructed in 1953 as a five story concrete frame addition to Old Canfield Hall with a basement and 4 stories above grade. The renovated areas include a group wash area, 5 private bathrooms, 1 trash/recycling room and 1 housekeeping room. An existing Basement housekeeping room will be modified to accommodate a new makeup air handling unit.
OSU desired a group wash area where students interact and foster community. A ‘lavatory island’ with offset ‘mirror columns’ was conceived to utilize a small space for multiple uses; i.e. washing/toothbrushing on one side of the countertop and hair/cosmetic mirror usage on the other side.
glaserworks also proposed new stained wood benches with display space be provided in an existing corridor niche formerly used for trash and recycling bin storage. Investigation and abatement of hazardous materials is part of the Work.
