Jewish Family Service
Realizing that simple donations of food or money were insufficient to provide real stability to most families in need, the staff of Jewish Family Services take a more holistic approach to aid. By providing wellness and recovery programs to people with chronic mental health issues and case management services to those striving for self-sufficiency, the staff attempt to address the underlying issues of poverty and homelessness. To that end, the Services’ headquarters need to be flexible, warm, inviting and foster a sense of security.
The renovation of a disused natatorium on the campus of Hebrew Union College provides private rooms for client assessment and meetings, a large multi-purpose room for community activities and education, kitchen, food pantry and administrative offices. Large windows providing abundant daylight, and warm colors, natural finishes and comfortable furnishings all contribute to an inviting, secure environment. Exterior and site renovations provide disabled access and better integrate the building into the campus and larger community.
