University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio
Fifth Third Arena, formerly known as the Shoemaker Center, contains seating for 13,200 for varsity basketball, six intramural courts for daily use athletic offices, varsity and student locker rooms, weight training and conditioning rooms for students and varsity, racquetball and squash courts, a sports medicine complex and a restaurant for UCATS, the athletic booster club.
Complexities of the project included segregating access by Intramural students in Laurence Hall from varsity basketball traffic, connecting to the existing Armory Field House, and sitting on top of a major steam tunnel (one foot below the basketball playing floor).
glaserworks also completed renovation of 40,600 s.f. of the Armory and 36,500 s.f. of the Field House.
Armory Renovations as an indoor practice facility includes new mechanical equipment and installation of two new floor systems: roll-up-and-store AstroHopper™ simulated FieldTurf and permanent rubberized flooring.
Work in the arena included a new 17,000 s.f. varsity weight room, renovations of football and basketball lockers and a new varsity basketball film viewing room.
