Cedar Village Renovation
glaserworks designed a renovation that re-shaped underutilized, institutional spaces into a place that encourages the comfortable interaction between senior citizen residents and their visitors. From concept through construction, we worked with the Owner and the Contractor to create higher value common spaces within a narrow scope and on a very limited budget.
We moved the receptionist to a more strategic location so she can monitor those who enter and depart – but in a welcoming manner. We redesigned the lobby area to have pockets of seating off of the main walkway to encourage activity and the chance meeting between acquaintances, while allowing efficient circulation. We also re-shaped the lobby to give visitors a better orientation to the facility upon entry.
We relocated a popular aviary to a strategic spot in the new lobby to facilitate lively interaction between residents and visitors – particularly children – and we opened an underutilized archives room to the lobby.
glaserworks worked with the interior designer to select finishes and key furnishings (including a custom-designed reception desk) to convey a feeling of warmth and comfort. The design is a transformational renovation from an institutional facility into a comfortable home.
